No, but seriously how do you know who is the right lawyer for you? Here’s a list of questions to ask before depositing a retainer fee.
Who specifically will be working on my case?
You’ll want to know the credentials and experience level as well as the personality of the person you’ll be working with. Confirm that your case will not be assigned out to a network group of attorneys and up for grabs!
2. What is your turnaround time on communications such as emails and phone calls?
Someone with prompt communication is essential especially because with divorce time is of the essence… you don’t want this to drag on forever!
3. Why should I choose your firm?
What makes your firm unique? Are two lawyers offering the exact same thing for different prices? What unique attributes are you looking for and willing to pay for ( do you want to work with someone compassionate, do you want to work with a shark, do you need someone who can serve as a good listener throughout the process… or maybe, does none of it matter aside from the price?)
4. What does the divorce path look like?
Unfortunately, divorce isn’t always linear, so you’ll want to know the lay of the land before going into battle with a new partner by your side.
